Let’s get personal: School, study, future

It’s been a while since I last updated you about my personal life, yet the past time hasn’t been easy peasy when it comes to school, my future study and other things. In this post I am telling you what I’m doing with my life and what I’m planning to do.

In the last personal update I told you about the “upcoming” exam week, with many orals. well, I’m glad to tell you that I passed all of these orals with good marks. Yay! The other exams that I had to do went OK as well. In fact, I finished all school exams with sufficient averages! In The Netherlands, the averages of your school exams count 50% for your final final final exam marks. That means that the other 50% is the final exam that is done throughout the country. Everyone gets the same final exams, well, not as in the same subjects, but for example the exam that I did for Dutch is the same Dutch exam that’s done by everyone who takes exams at my educational level.

The final exams started in the begin of May and they ended two weeks after that. You got that right: I have already finished high school! I think that all of my final exams went well, because I checked the correction models and I think that for all exams I have at least a sufficient mark. Except for Philosophy, I didn’t check that exam because I was too scared, haha, so I have no clue what my mark will be.

Nationwide exams also means that we can complain about the exams. The Dutch VWO exam, for example, broke the record of most complained exam; currently there are almost 30,000 complaints. And yes, I kind of agree with all those complaints. The exam was way too long, there were too many (open) questions (39 questions in total in 3 hours, from which 30 questions were open questions), I can go on like this forever. But that’s not what you’re here for, so I’ll stop 😉

Now that I’ve finished the exams, a very long holiday has started for me. Almost 3 months! The past two weeks I met with my friends, ate lots of ice cream and most of all, relaxed. The exams were killing me and now I can finally relax, so I really needed to do that. But of course, since I’ve finished school, I needed to focus on my future education. Because yeah, in the last personal update you could read that I still had no clue of what I wanted to study. Well, now I can tell you that I chose 4 studies and that I applied for these studies. 4 is the maximum amount of studies that you can apply for so I really needed to cut down my interests, haha. The studies that I applied for are Global Management of Social Issues, Management of International Social Challenges, Public Governance and History, but I think that I like the first one the most.

When I applied for Global Management of Social Issues (GMSI), it was the 30th of April, and the application deadline of all of these studies was 1st of May. The day before the application deadline I found out that if you want to apply for this study, you need to write an 800-word essay. Okay. Keep in mind that this was the week before the final exams, so I was really really busy with school. At the end, I still managed to finish the essay so my application was sent in time. After this, I had a Skype interview with one of the teachers of the university, and this went very well! After the interview, I got the important email. I was accepted! I was really happy when I heard this.

I also got accepted for Management of International Social Challenges, and for the other studies you immediately get accepted if you apply. I do really think that I want to study GMSI, but it’s difficult to immediately turn down the other options. Oh well, I have until August to decide haha.

With future, I don’t mean the faraway future, but just the coming months. First of all: we booked our summer holiday! We’ll be enjoying the sun at the West coast of France this summer. I am really looking forward to this holiday :) .

Also, there are still some plans to go on holiday with a friend of mine, but we haven’t booked anything yet. So I wonder if that’s going to work out, haha. On the one hand, I really really want to go on holiday with friends, but on the other hand, I think that’s quite scary. So I don’t know about that.

In 1.5 week I will know whether I’m graduated! To be honest, if I fail, something really weird must have happened. But you never know for sure until you get the results, so I’ll stay silent.

For now, I am going to enjoy the nice weather, hang out with friends and eat good food. We’ll see how the rest of the holiday goes :)

This is the personal update for now, I’ll keep you updated! By the way: do you like the pictures in this post? Then you can follow me on Instagram!

Do you have any plans for this summer? Let me know!
